Join us for our Seal Watch Cruises. This is a great way to see Buzzards Bay and the Elizabeth Islands at a time of year that most people never experience.
Cruises are dependant on favorable weather and total number of passengers. Always call to confirm the Friday before.
We leave New Bedford at 10am and travel across Buzzards Bay to Gull Island, a slip of beach off Cuttyhunk and Penikese Islands. Gray, Harbor and Harp seals come South from cold Northern waters to winter over in our waters.
Once arriving at Gull Island, we approach the seals at a safe distance and float quietly while you can photograph, observe and even sketch these interesting marine mammals.
Next we go ashore at beautiful and unique Cuttyhunk Island where some may choose to walk up Lookout Hill to enjoy the phenomenal 360 degree views of Block Island Sound, Buzzards Bay, Vineyard Sound, Marthas Vineyard and the Elizabeth Islands, stark and breathtaking in their “Winter Mode”. Others may choose to walk the beaches, check out “town” or just relax onboard the boat. We can also do a short cruise of the Islands if the group would prefer.
Clam Chowder, drinks, hot dogs and chips will be served on board.
After lunch, and strolling, we re-board the MV Cuttyhunk for another brief stop at the seals and return across Buzzards Bay, you will arrive in New Bedford Seaport at 2pm, plenty of time left to visit the Whaling Museum or any of the Seaport’s famous attractions.
Tickets for adults are $45, children are $25 (12 and under).
Lunch is included. Reservations required, limited seating.
